Your Hosts
The Sleddog Team
Caroline, Daniel & son Joshua Schafer and the entire SJG team welcome you to beautiful lake Sandsjön!
In autumn 2011 the Swiss expats together with their Nordic sleddogs relocated to Swedish Lapland and acquired Sandsjögården. Since 2013 they run the place as Sandsjögården Holiday Resort.
Caro and Daniel have always been passionate about Nordic sleddogs. In the year 2000 the first Alaskan Malamute girl moved in with them and literally turned their life and house upside down.
The fascination for these still rudimental breeds grew even stronger. Eventually a sleddog pack lived with Caro and Dani.
At the same time this sparked the wish and the idea, which finally led to their relocation to Swedish Lapland.
Caroline Schafer
Owner and CEO
Caro is a potpourri of host, entertainer, pencil pusher, trend scout and ambassador of the company.
She is responsible for the company’s gastronomy, guest relations, office, marketing, communications and event management. Last but not least she accompanies the guests as tour guide into Europe’s last wilderness.
Caroline was primarily educated in Banking and accomplished her professional development in Public Relations and Communications. During her gymnasium and training years she worked in several positions within gastronomy.
In the years to follow she committed voluntary service together with her husband to support a camping in her home region. In her professional career she worked in the finance sector, an agency for pr, advertisement and graphic design as well as the event and tourism sector.
In her free time Caro’s heart belongs to son Joshua and her Nordic sleddogs. Plus she has a soft spot for music and dance.
Daniel Schafer
Owner and CFO
Summer or winter, Dani is always found in his workwear, puttering around somewhere on-site. If you don’t see him, you will surely hear him…
He primarily manages anything outdoors, such as the dogs, renovations, enhancements and maintenance of the facility as well as housekeeping. Security, fire safety, QS, accounting and strategic finance planning are further areas he is responsible for.
Daniel is trained as electrician with focus on Radio/TV and further educated in the justice system, safety engineering, laser technique and acoustics. In his professional career he worked for the correctional facility, police force and for the former Polar dog colony of the Jungfraubahn (as a professional musher and dog caregiver). Alongside his career he managed a bar and did voluntary service for a year-round camping in his home region.
In his free time you will most likely find him in his workshop, where he loves to work with wood or electronic devices, making a fire or driving the tractor with son Joshua and of course with the dogs, who have always been an inherent part of his life.
Joshua Schafer
Youngest family member
Josh is our Lapland miracle, who in the meanwhile has become a real smarty-pants.
Presently his world consists of mainly dragons, transformers, robots and large construction machines and vehicles. Thus, it might happen that he shares his knowledge about these things, unrequested and in full detail with the guests.
In summer he is often seen driving his ATV around Sandsjögården. He also loves to follow us on the water, e.g. by canoe, sup or packraft. In winter he loves to climb all the snow heaps together with his Malamute girl, Djanga or other kids. He also loves to ride the snowmobile into Europe’s last wilderness, where he wants to make a fire and barbecue his beloved Swiss "Cervelat" sausage.
Team
Nicole Marti
Gastronomy & Housekeeping
Nici is our good soul on-site and she is always in for a good joke or to banter someone.
She was trained as chef in a retirement home in Switzerland. After accomplishing her training Nicole decided to go abroad. Several travels and language travels later she joined our SJG family in 2018. Nicole is mainly responsible for spoiling your palate and keeping the houses. More, she supports Caro as tour guide on our different adventures.
Since she lost her heart to the Siberian Huskies and in general is a total nature person, who always is in need of movement, you will most likely find her outdoors, with the dogs or somewhere about Europe’s last Wilderness, after finishing her indoor tasks.
Alizée Staub
Office, Social Media, Allrounder
Aallliiiiiiiiiii is often involved into extensive dragon or robot fights by Josh or kept on her toes through his Walkie-Talkie.
Alizée joined our SJG family in December 2020. After a holiday together with her family at Sandsjögården some years ago she decided, that after accomplishing her merchant training in Switzerland, she would love to work for us and gather her first experiences abroad.
She basically works with administration, marketing and social media but also supports us in service, housekeeping and with the sleddogs.
